ABOUT THE POST GRADUATE COLLEGE OF LAW
The Post Graduate College of Law
has a glorious History of more than 113 years .The
Faculty of law started classes in 1899 by Legal
Department during Nizam period, in Hyderabad State.
Thus teaching law was in existence even before Osmania
University which came into existence in 1919. In 1923
Law Department was constituted at premises of Arts
College in O.U. The University made a successful
experiment of teaching law, in a vernacular language
namely Urdu. At that time Urdu was court language. The
college shifted to Nizam college premises in 1983. At
present the institution is offering six branches in
Master of laws (LLM), Constitutional Law, Corporate Law,
Jurisprudence, International Law , Labour Law, Crimes
and Torts, PG Diploma courses in Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) and also Ph.D. Programmes. To improve the
legal education standards, the college introduced 5YDC
integrated course at bachelor’s level in 2006. The
college is known for its Committed Faculty with
Excellent Infrastructure and Alumni having reached the
pinnacles of excellence as Judges of Supreme Court and
High Courts, Attorneys, Academicians, Politicians and
other chosen Professions in India as well as Globally.
In the History of Osmania
University for the first time THE FATHER OF INDIAN
CONSTITUTION DR.B.R.AMBEDKAR’S STATUE IS INSTALLED IN
THE COLLEGE PREMISES. The purpose of installation of
statue is to bring awareness among the students
regarding the Ideas, Thoughts and
Achievements, about Constitution and
Constitutional Values enshrined by Dr.B.R.Ambedkar,
The Father of Indian Constitution. A
spacious Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Law Library building was
inaugurated by Sri Porika Balram Naik Garu ,
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and
Empowerment, Government of India on 23rd
January 2013 at P.G.College of Law premesis.

CLASS ROOM FACILITY:
PGCL is located in centre of twin cities with well
furnished classrooms for Bachelor Studies,
Postgraduate Studies, Diploma courses
and Ph.D. Programme.

SEMINAR HALL:
The College has spacious seminar hall for
multipurpose-use for Conferences, Lectures Theatre and
which is equipped with New Technological Advanced
Equipment. It is used as educational media centre for
power point presentations audio and video programmes
for, academic learning used by student and
professionals.

Moot
Court Hall:
The College has spacious air-conditioned Moot Court hall
with advanced audio equipments to conduct Mock Trials
and Moot Courts for practical training.

AMBEDKAR LAW LIBRARY:
A spacious Law Library building is constructed and named
as Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Law Library at P. G. College premises
with 15830 Academic Collections, 3172 Reference
Collections, written by eminent Jurists and Legal
Luminaries comprising of both International and National
authors, 9 Journals from 1919-2013, 3 Magazines, 12
Legal different Dictionaries, 23 volumes of
Encyclopaedias of Britannica, 6 CD ROMS, 15 Digital
Documents, and many Law Reports, Yearly and Monthly
Digest, 490 Thesis & Dissertations, Employment news
magazine with resourceful and updated information of
Legal material.

COMPUTER LAB FACILITY: Computer
Lab is provided with ample systems equipped with paid
legal website ‘LEGAL PUNDITS’ and internet facility. The
laboratory facility is available for Students, Legal
Luminaries, Research Scholars, Advocates, Judicial
Officers & Staff. Computing packages unlikely to be
found on most home computers are available on the
laboratory machines which are open during working hours
from morning till late evenings.

A big ground for sporting and all necessary
equipment to play Outdoor & Indoor Games is available.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE: Administrative area is
well established for Staff to carry on daily chores.

LEGAL AID CENTRE:
Provides Free Legal-Aid, Family & Legal Counselling
Centre advice, trains the Students and
Para-Legal Volunteers with recent trends of
Practical, Legal, and Procedural Issues. For speedy
“Access to Justice”.

UNIT OFFICE OF P.G. College worked and is working in
different Community oriented social activities like
Health Awareness Programmes, Clean & Green
Programmes, National Immunization Programmes,
NSS Student Training Programmes, Women Issues,
Child Problems and Awareness Programmes.

Placement cell facilitates recruitment opportunities to
students, measures their skills set to meet the
expectations of prospective employers. Unit trains
students on Resume preparation, Soft skill training,
Interview skill training.

Student Bar Association:
Launched in 2006 with seven committees under the
guidance of the then principal Dr. Zaheeruddin Garu, & Hon’ble
Justice L.Narsimha Reddy Garu, Dean, Faculty of Law and
Judge, High Court of Andhra Pradesh to nurture the
leadership skills, enhance organization skills not just
in academic activity but in extracurricular activities
with all brilliance by motivating both in-house and
inter college students to carry on cultural activities,
literary activities by creating amicable and healthy
environment and healthy competition among students
coming from diversified areas.
