Prof. B. Reddya Naik is a Senior Professor of Zoology and heads the Medical Entomology Division.
He joined University services on September 2nd, 1997, as an Assistant Professor and received a Post-Doctoral Research Award from the UGC Selection and Award Bureau, New Delhi (2004-2007). His research focuses on Medical Entomology with a special emphasis on mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases, surveillance, and their preventive measures using biological agents and plant products. He has published 40 research papers in peer-reviewed National/International journals.
He has successfully guided research scholars for their Ph.D. work, and so far, 7 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degrees. He has attended/participated/presented research findings in 37 National seminars/International seminars/Conferences/ Workshops. He has organized 27 Seminars/Symposium/Workshops/Conferences/Training Programmes in the respective professional/research fields. He has been a resource person to Academic Staff College, OU; DST-SERB School of Insect Biology; for School teachers by JVV, etc.
He produced a documentary film on “Chikungunya” in collaboration with EFLU-EMMRC, Hyderabad, in 2007 to create awareness of Chikungunya epidemics. He visited the USA in 2008 and China in 2013 to present research papers at seminars/workshops.
In addition to teaching for the past 25 years, he has served the University in different capacities: as the Director of Sir Ronald Ross Institute of Parasitology (SRRIP), Begumpet, from May 2008 to February 2012, where he enhanced the Nobel laureate’s workplace with the help of the Department of Archaeology, Govt. of AP, and brought the institute into the limelight; as the Director, SC/ST Cell, Osmania University, from 2012 to 2014, where he organized many Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial lecture series; as the NSS Programme Coordinator of Osmania University from July 2014 to November 2015. He was the Local Secretary for the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) for the 105th Indian Science Congress in 2018. He was Chairperson, Board of Studies, Department of Zoology, UCS, O.U. during the year 2021. Presently, he is the Institute Body Member for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, Vijayawada, and a Member of the Subject Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) for Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB). He served as the Head of the Department of Zoology from August 2022 to January 2023.
Presently he holds the position of Officer of Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice-Chancellor, O.U. from May 2021.
